Abstract

None supplied. From introduction: This chapter briefly explores the history of fish passage technology development, fish passage policy and legislation, and presents currently used upstream and downstream fish passage systems. Evaluation techniques used in field and laboratory studies to determine the biological effectiveness of a passage system are mentioned. The importance of multidisciplinary team approaches to fishery restoration efforts is discussed. This chapter also points out future directions of fish passage technology and new research, as well as briefly presenting the remaining chapters in the book. The intention here is to disseminate valuable information; the sharing of knowledge and information about fish passage technologies can only help in our common objective of removing barriers that hamper fish movement and fishery restoration.
