Abstract

Fishways have long been regarded as permanent concrete structures. In recent years, however, some fishways have been damaged by floods or storms, and others have suffered differences in water level at their entrance due to the degraded riverbed. Also in riverbed protection works, such as weirs, some of them have obstructed the migration of fish and others have undergone differences in water level at their downstream end due to scours. This study relates to the development of foot protection blocks (fishway concrete blocks) which are improved as to function as fishways which are fish-friendly.
