Abstract
The hydropower plants of the Austrian part at the Drau River were taken into operation between 1942 and 1988 and reflected the technical and ecological development of this period. The considerable development in the ecological sciences was taken into account and realised in the design and construction of fishways. Since 1988 therefore natural-like designed, fish ecologically high-efficient fishways were built, which offer spawn-places, reservation areas, and retreat zones for the times of floods. The operational efficiency was checked by accompanying investigations. Very pleasing results have proved the endeavors of the ODK in the last years.
