Abstract

Several types of fish ladders are constructed to enable the fish passage at the rivers. Although the spiral fishway, a type of fish ladder, has many advantages, the water flow characteristics in its pools have not been clarified yet. In this research work, the water flow characteristics in several types of spiral fishways were studied by experiments and three dimensional computer simulations. As the result of the study, it was found that a spiral fishway which had a configuration so called the Ice Harbor type, provided the most desirable flow state with less aerated water flow in its pools. And also the detail design of the Ice Harbor type spiral fishways were investigated.
