Abstract

Ministry of Construction is conducting a nation-wide program since 1991, whose aim is to restore fish-abundant rivers by installing fishways on weirs and dams. Coverage of the program starts from a mouth of designated river to its springhead. For those people who plan fishways and anadromous fish, high dams appear to be the most troublesome obstacles which must to be overcome. In this article, types of fishway that are suitable to Japanese dam sites which generally are narrow, dams are high, and with large annual fluctuations in level of their reservoirs.
