Abstract

A recent calculation of semileptonic axial form factors for B→D*ev by Altomari and Wolfenstein is reconsidered. A common assumption for the description of mesons in terms of quarks is shown to be inconsistent with covariance at the lowest order of relativistic corrections. Covariance is restored by the previously overlooked Wigner rotation of the spectator quark spin. The result of Altomari and Wolfenstein for a+ is reproduced, but not that for |. Implications of the CLEO D* polarization measurement are discussed.
