The University of Massachusetts STEM Connections GK12 program provided up to 10 graduate students per year with outstanding opportunities to work alongside veteran K12 classroom teachers as they taught science in the elementary and middle school level. During the academic years of 2002-2005 UMass fellows spent up to ten hours per week working alongside one elementary teacher, nine middle school teacher and one high school teacher while involving several hundred school students in inquiry-based learning through hands-on investigations of questions related to five environmental themes, each of which involved a UMass faculty member (or members) content expert.
