Commonwealth Honors College: Who We Are and What We Value

Commonwealth Honors College, the honors college at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, was established to offer academically talented students a community that promotes engagement with peers, leading scholars, and society.

Finding Connections

As a Commonwealth Honors College student you’ll join more than 3000 other students who share your desire not just to succeed but to excel. You’ll develop enduring ties with faculty members in small, intensive classes. You’ll find yourself challenged by an array of interdisciplinary seminars, enriched honors colloquia, and community service learning courses. You'll have the opportunity to join an even larger circle of student scholars by participating in national and overseas study programs. In every class and every event, Commonwealth Honors College will encourage you to find connections—between disciplines, between theory and practice, between yourself and the people around you.

Making a Difference

Wherever you establish a connection, Commonwealth Honors College will urge you to make a difference, too. Our mission is to give you an outstanding academic experience within a supportive community. But our mission is something more as well: to prepare you for responsible engagement in an increasingly diverse world and in the issues of social justice inevitably arising there. If you care about learning, leading, and leaving the world a better place than you found it, Commonwealth Honors College may be the community for you.
