Introduction
Professor Barbara Stanley came to UMass Amherst after 13 years as Deputy Director of Public Health Services for the City of Springfield. During that time, she supervised 40 staff including 34 public health nurses who provided services to over 26,000 students in Springfield. Other Public Health services within her purview were Well-Child clinics and Flu clinics serving over 6,800 seniors each fall.
As Deputy Director, she coordinated Springfield Health Services for the Homeless, a federally funded health center serving 1000 persons experiencing homelessness in the Greater Pioneer Valley. Other responsibilities included supervising the numerous areas in the department such as Dispute Resolution, Violence Prevention and Senior Centers.
