Introduction
Stephen Miller received his Ph.D. from UCLA in Japanese language and literature. Research interests include classical Japanese poetry and prose, medieval waka, Japanese Buddhism, translation, and gay/queer studies. His book—The Wind from Vulture Peak: The Buddhification of Japanese Waka in the Heian Period—is forthcoming from the Cornell East Asia Series (2012). He has also published translations and edited a collection of Japanese same-sex literature called Partings at Dawn (1996).
