Barbara Zecchi, Professor of Cinema and Iberian and Gender Studies, is Director of the Film Studies Program at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Zecchi is a film scholar, film critic, film festival curator, and video-essayist. She is Associate Member of the Academy of Film of Spain (Academia de las Artes y las Ciencias Cinematográficas de España). 

Zecchi has published and lectured extensively on European and Latin American cinemas, on women filmmakers, feminist film theory, adaptation theory, gender and sexuality studies, and on cultural gerontology. In addition to numerous journal articles, book chapters, film reviews, and videographic essays,  she is the author , editor or co-editor of ten books.

Zecchi is the founder of the Digital Humanities Project "Gynocine: Feminisms, Gender, and Cinemas" that she is currently directing, and the co-founder and co-director of the international research network "CinemAGEnder".
