Abstract
This paper examines the trade-offs between economic gains and adverse environmental effects of three proposed small hydropower projects: the Big 'A' in Maine, Livermore Falls in New Hampshire, and Lee Creek in Oklahoma and Arkansas. The paper concludes that careful economic analysis of proposed small hydropower plants will show that many are poor investments for society.
