Abstract
The Chesapeake Bay American Eels Fishery Management Plan was developed by the Chesapeake Bay Program in 1991 and adopted by all jurisdictions of the Chesapeake Bay. The Plan suggested continued collection of catch per unit effort data from the Chesapeake Bay eels fishery and recommended that all jurisdictions implement research to obtain basic biological and socioeconomic information about the American eel (Chesapeake Executive Council, 1991). Maryland began a population study in 1996 to collect biological and socioeconomic information about the American eels fishery and population in the Bay.
