Detecting hot spring tourism in post COVID-19 pandemic: compensatory travel experiences and its restorative effect

Abstract
Considering the public health crisis induced by the COVID-19 pandemic, hot spring tourism attracting more people want to compensate themselves from experienced outbreak stage and seek restoration. Research is lacking regarding the quality of experience and restoration from the compensatory travel experience of hot spring resort in context of post COVID-19 pandemic. To address this gap, a conceptual model was developed to assess the effect of compensatory experience quality on perceived restorativeness and the mediating role of destination image. Data was collected from 426 respondents of hot spring tourists who patronized after outbreak stage of pandemic, was analyzed using the structural equation modelling technique. The finding confirmed the influence between the compensatory experience quality and perceived restorativeness. Moreover, the finding also identified the mediating effect of both cognitive image and affective image from the proposed model.
