Development Control and the Protection of Sensitive Areas

Abstract
As population growth continues and natural resources become increasingly scarce, the need for intelligent development controls and environmental protection becomes critical. ECOLANDS, an environmental education program, was developed to address this need through a comprehensive land use curriculum. Designed for both students and laypersons, ECOLANDS promotes environmentally responsible land development by introducing users to the functions and processes involved in land planning. Central to its philosophy is the idea that development must coexist with nature, especially in the face of expanding populations. This text serves as a detailed supplement to the ECOLANDS Guidebook, offering expanded information on land use controls and environmental protection techniques to support sustainable development goals.
