Building a Community for All: Evidence of immigrant employee integration in a tourism-dependent community

Abstract
Tourism employers have increasingly come to rely upon migrants to fill the industry’s considerable labor needs. This has led to an influx of immigrants in tourism-dependent communities around the globe. Without strategies to help integrate these immigrants into the communities where they live and work a vital part of the tourism labor pool is left vulnerable. Without a well-establish workforce the tourism industry itself is vulnerable as well. To address these challenges this study utilized interviews and focus groups with tourism stakeholders to identify strategies for integrating immigrants into a tourism-dependent community. Use of the social exclusion framework in analysis of the qualitative data revealed economic, social, political, and cultural dimensions to incorporate into integration strategies.
