Abstract
Nineteen juvenile American shad (Alosa sapidissima) were monitored with external radio transmitters as they passed Northfield Mountain Pumped Storage Project on the Connecticut River. The likelihood of entrainment during pumping operations is less for fish passing the plant intake on the opposite shore or in midstream. Seven of nine shad approaching the plant intake successfully passed downstream during full operation on three pumps. The other two tagged fish were entrained in the system.
