Abstract
An ongoing program to protect fish at electric generating stations has focused the development of new intake designs, retrofitting existing intakes, and fish transport systems. A synopsis of advances with respect to a new intake design, the response of migratory and nonmigratory fish species to various stimuli, such as a behavioural barrier net, air bubble screens, white and colored flashing and constant light, sound from a unique acoustical device, and a fish transport system are presented. Results associated with feasibility studies at tidal and hydroelectric facilities are provided.
