Abstract
This study examines the use of computerized information systems for land resources planning and management. It assesses state-of-the-art advances in hardware and software, identifying and evaluating critical issues that affect system design and implementation, particularly regarding their impact on the METLAND model developed at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. The METLAND approach to land resource analysis is explained, and recommendations are provided to improve the model’s overall operational capabilities.
