Abstract
Presented in partnership with the NSF Center for Braiding Indigenous Knowledges and Science. The braiding of Indigenous knowledge and Western science fosters a deeper and more holistic understanding of the past through multiple lenses. This panel will focus on the new Center for Braiding Indigenous Knowledge and Science, funded by the National Science Foundation in the USA. It will outline current projects being undertaken under the auspices of the new centre with First Nations colleagues in the USA, and suggest additional lines of research that would build on Australian strengths in archaeology and other disciplines. Kellie Pollard and Claire Smith are the co-Directors of the Australian hub of the new center, and will facilitate this panel discussion with Caroline Spry. This material is based upon work supported by the U.S. National Science Foundation Center for Braiding Indigenous Knowledges and Science under Award No. 2243258. Any opinions, findings and conclusions or recommendations expressed in this material are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the views of the U.S. National Science Foundation.
