Strategies for Information of Forestry Considerations Into Regional Planning
Citations
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to assist the Regional Planning Council (RPC) of Baltimore, Maryland, in integrating forestry considerations into its 1977 General Development Plan. The study proceeds from a general discussion of policy problems to a discussion of how the RPC can address these problems. The results of the study are two strategies for the integration of forestry considerations, along with background information on urban forest benefits. These strategies expand upon planning approaches used in the 1972 General Development Plan, modified to incorporate forest benefits within the context of related uses and levels of development. The background information serves a dual purpose: it provides illustrations of the policy challenges involved in incorporating urban forestry into regional planning, and it offers a framework of information necessary to implement the integration strategies.
