Hydroacoustic Studies of Downstream Migrating Salmonids at Hydropower Dams: Two Case Studies

Abstract
Hydroacoustic techniques were applied to studying salmonid outmigrations passing Rocky Reach and Rock Island dams in Washington State. Results included vertical, horizontal, and diel distributions, trajectories into turbine intakes, run timing, and spill effectiveness for passing migrating fish. The data are being used in the design and implementation of effective fish bypass mechanisms for downstream migrating fish.
