The Effect of Fear of Missing Out on Generation Z’s Travel Behavior

Abstract
Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) is characterized by the aspiration of continually seeking social connection and social involvement with others and social media. This research, using mixed methods, aims to understand the role of FoMO on Generation Z (Gen Z)’s travel plan behaviors based on the theory of planned behavior. The expected research findings will identify the roles that FoMO, attitudes, social norms and perceptions of behavioral control have on intended and actual behaviors. The follow-up qualitative interviews are expected to help understand the constraints and constraint negotiation strategies Gen Z utilized in travel decision-making processes. Hence, it is anticipated that the findings can help tourism scholars better understand Gen Z travelers’ psychological changes during their travel decision-making processes. It is also anticipated that practical implications for tourism providers on specific nuances related to Gen Z decision-making.
