COMMUNITY OF PATHOS: RESISTANCE THROUGH REPRESENTATION IN MIGRANT ART

Citations
Abstract
This dissertation examines the depiction of the migrant body in contemporary works of migrant art made by migrant artists across a spectrum of forms (paintings, sculptures, audio installation, fiction, etc.) Each artwork, seen as a ‘return-of-the-gaze’ that interrogates how the migrant is perceived by the societal, institutional, and migrant-self gaze, produces moments of contact between spectators and the migrant narrative, thus facilitating, for the former, a nuanced understanding of the latter.
