Abstract
This session introduces a model of curriculum design that positions the history and culture of the local community as central to students’ learning experiences. Presenters will highlight a unique partnership between Bunker Hill Community College and Boston’s Museum of African American History that engages incoming students in exploring local history, diverse cultures and their civic identities. Participants will gain an understanding of the impact of inclusive, place-based curricula on students’ successful transition to college as well as practice hands-on strategies for implementing such a program at their institutions
