Agritourism Risk Management in the Absence of Liability Exemption Laws: An Illinois Case Study

Citations
Abstract
Enterprise-level risk management decisions in the agritourism context are an important element in firm profitability and realization of agritourism’s social and economic development potential in rural areas. Prior research suggests that implementation of agritourism liability exemption (ALE) laws has a positive effect on the number of agritourism operations in a state, as well as total income. Using surveys, interviews, and focus groups, this research seeks to better understand the risk management decisions for agritourism operations in states without ALE laws, develop recommendations for best practices, and provide insights for policymaking to better support the agritourism industry.
