Dissertations

  • Doctoral Dissertations:

    This collection contains both open access doctoral dissertations and campus access doctoral dissertations.

    Open access dissertations will be marked with the document type “Open Access”. The full content is available to all.

    Campus access dissertations will be marked with the document type “Campus Access”. The full content is available to those using a computer on the UMass Amherst campus, to those with a UMass Amherst NetID username and password, or through interlibrary loan.

    Some dissertations may also have embargoes placed on them. In this case the files will not be available for download until the embargo period has expired. The embargoes are for a period of six months or one year.

  • Dissertations available from Proquest:

    Full text is available to UMass faculty, students, and staff on campus through this site. No login is required.

    Off-campus UMass Amherst users may download dissertations by logging into the libraries' proxy server with your UMass Amherst OIT username and password. Links to log in to the proxy server are at the top of each dissertation page.

    Non-UMass Amherst users, may purchase copies of dissertations from Proquest or talk to your librarian about borrowing a copy through Interlibrary Loan. (Some titles may also be available free of charge in our Dotoral Dissertation Collection, so please check there first.)

    Access to abstracts is unrestricted.
