Multiple hydropower projects, proposed for construction on individual river basins, can create cumulative impacts to important river resources. The National Environmental Policy Act affords the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission an opportunity to consider the cumulative impacts of hydropower development in basin-wide Environmental Impact Statements or Environmental Assessments prior to project authorizations.
