A Synopsis of Ontario Hydro Advances to Protect and Guide Fish
Proceedings of the International Symposium on Fishways '90
Organizing Committee for International Symposium on Fishways
An ongoing program to protect fish at electric generating stations has focused the development of new intake designs, retrofitting existing intakes, and fish transport systems. A synopsis of advances with respect to a new intake design, the response of migratory and nonmigratory fish species to various stimuli, such as a behavioural barrier net, air bubble screens, white and colored flashing and constant light, sound from a unique acoustical device, and a fish transport system are presented. Results associated with feasibility studies at tidal and hydroelectric facilities are provided.
