This paper addresses the need for defining areas within turbines that cause fish losses. Research to date has given a data basis to make this possible, but turbine design has not kept pace. Total or partial fish screening is used to divert fish from turbine intakes. More monitoring is required for improving diversions and plant operating life expectancy.
