Abstract

Production capacity assessment (PCA) is a bioassay used to quantify limits for the safe use of a water supply. The PCA is compared with the common carrying-capacity determination methods. Examples are developed for use of PCA for comparison of water supplies and for production system design. The method is dynamic and thus useful for estimating changes in production associated with changes in water quality, such as might result from high fish loading achieved with the addition of levels of aeration or oxygen injection.
