Abstract
The authors present a new technique by which stream habitat enhancement measures designed by experienced personnel can be implemented by unskilled labor with minimum supervision. This method allows all elements of a detailed design to be triangulated to a pair of steel pins driven into the streambank near the enhancement site. An implementation document is prepared containing a descriptive text, a scaled plan map of existing and proposed features, a table of distances and elevations of existing and proposed features, and a table of construction material dimensions, quantities, and sources. The document can readily serve as construction specifications for contractors. The two-pin method was used to design and implement habitat enhancement measures for chinook salmon Oncorhynchus tshawytscha , coho salmon O. kisutch , and steelhead O. mykiss in 3.7 miles of Tarup Creek, Del Norte County, California.
