Abstract
Flow rate data were analyzed to propose a simple method for deciding about the design flow rate of a fishway. The analyzed flow rate data were obtained at gauge stations distributed all over Japan, for approximately 33 years, on average. The main results are as follows: (1) the 185-day discharge is comparatively correlative to the discharge area; (2) the n-day discharge is strongly correlative to the 185-day discharge except for a large flood occasion; (3) the fluctuation range of flow rate, available for deciding about the design flow rate of a fishway, can be calculated by the discharge area only.
