Abstract
Small fish and fry are planted in the 86,000 reservoirs in China. During the flood season, many fish flow down through spillways and powerhouse intakes and go up streams. A large number of net facilities have been installed to prevent fish loss. To eliminate nets' disadvantage of clogging with debris, over 100 electric fence (EF) have been built in the past 20 years. Most of them are operated with an efficiency of 85% to 90%. The length of the EF are 80-150 m, water depth at EF locations is 5-10 m. This paper deals with the design and operation of Chinese EF, including principles and layout.
