Abstract
Protection of downstream migrant fish at hydroelectric plants was not always considered necessary or economical. The early practice was to accommodate the more visible upstream migration of adult fish and ignore downstream migrants. But with the revival of interest in hydropower, coupled with increased concern for preserving fish populations, comes with question of which method to employ for greatest effect - and at what cost to developers.
