Summary

None supplied. From introduction: The purpose of this report is to provide a better understanding of the mechanical injury of fish passing through spillways and stilling basins based upon the data and information provided in the current literature. This literature review is intended to: (1) describe the types of injuries sustained by fish passing through spillways and stilling basins; (2) compare injury and mortality rates observed at different dams which have been directly or indirectly attributed to spillway passage, including those with gas abatement structures such as flow deflectors; (3) identify the physical factors and conditions occurring within the spillway and stilling basin environment which have been reported to inure and kill fish; and (4) describe the relationships between these physical variables and injury and mortality rates.
