Abstract
This paper examines the literature on the racialization of Muslims and aims to take a historical and global approach to understanding the racialization of Muslims. I propose a framework that theorizes the racialization of Muslims in the U.S. as an instance of U.S. imperialism that draws on already-existing legacies of racialization for Muslims. This process of racialization, which I argue is bound up with U.S. imperialism, constitutes a new form of racialization of Muslims in the United States, and this racialization process occurs through institutional change and media representations.
