Abstract
This presentation covers a two semester-long OER faculty honorarium program that was implemented by UMA Libraries beginning in Spring of 2022. The goal of the program was to increase the use of OER in courses across the UMA community while supporting DEI initiatives and multiple aspects of UMA's Strategic Plan. Librarians collaborated with a Learning Experience Designer (LXD) to support faculty with transitioning their courses from a traditional textbook to OER. We will discuss how the program was designed and implemented, our strategies for faculty outreach, and how course design, information literacy, sustainability, and accessibility methods were incorporated into the program. Program outcomes will also be highlighted by sharing evaluation methods and survey results from both faculty participants and their students. Participants will gain greater awareness of the importance of intentional course design in the OER adoption process. They will also gain a foundation to build out a similar program at their institution. Presentation participation will include interactive questionnaires assessing participants’ familiarity with course design and OER initiatives as well as opportunities for participants to share their knowledge and ideas with the group via a shared document. This presentation is geared toward beginner or intermediate level individuals. It is applicable to faculty, administrators, librarians, and instructional designers.
