KC 4.5: Cultural Tourism's Impacts on Rural Landscapes: The Opportunities and Challenges and how these can be addressed in the 1999 Cultural Tourism Charter Review

Abstract
The knowledge cafe session will focus on the sustainability implications of cultural tourism development on rural landscapes and resulting impacts for tangible and intangible cultural heritage. Specifically, the session would focus on the relationship between rural heritage and tourism and how issues can be addressed in the updating of the ICOMOS Cultural Tourism Charter, and relate to the tourism-focused Sustainable Development Goal Targets. Participants: Targeted speakers from the ICTC from different regions and heritage backgrounds, experts on the proposed subjects have been chosen to dynamize the debate, which will be open to all ICOMOS members participating at the Marrakesh AGA and Scientific Symposium. Structure and subjects for debate: Brief presentation of the 1999 Charter review process, acknowledgment of its 20th anniversary, the panel subjects and its aims (Celia Martínez _6 minutes) Tourism degrees of impact (positive and negative) on rural landscapes and proposals for ensuring indigenous groups and farming communities’ involvement on rural landscapes tourism (Ivan Henares _6 minutes) Tourism, climate change and the SDGs on rural landscapes + Summary of the aspects discussed and opening of the debate on how to integrate them into the 1999 Charter review (Fergus Maclaren_8 minutes) Debate_10 minutes each for the three bullets above_30 Minutes (All) Conclusions_5 minutes (Celia Martinez Yanez)
