Selecting and creating OER for a new class

Abstract
First, I will discuss the decision to use OER for this class, followed by the process of finding and evaluating the text. Since the text supplements the classroom lessons, I also need to find and make suitable materials to be used in the classroom. I like using a synesthetic approach, that is, using as many of the senses as possible. This requires finding and curating materials that are interesting, engaging, and suitable for class projects. I will discuss the process for finding and evaluating on-line materials, videos and three-dimensional objects. I will also go into making my own classroom resources, and where to find sources for this. Some of the subject matter is: archaeology, documents, and the US Constitution. Video resources are abundant, but need to be carefully curated. Some of these are not in the student’s comfort zone, and I have them do reaction papers. To wrap up, I will discuss what worked and what did not.
