Abstract

We examine a recent claim for a large first-order isospin breaking, due to ρ-ω mixing, in the superallowed 0+ to 0+ nuclear beta decays which provide the best determinations of Vud. We find that no such effect exists, and present general arguments and explicit estimates to indicate that isospin breaking effects from the quark mass difference are not an obstacle to a precise measurement of Vud.
