Emotions and the Defining Features of Overall Tourism Experiences
Abstract (150 Words)
Travelers often experience a variety of emotional states in response to their interpretations and evaluations of events experienced during their trip journey. Thus, it is critical to understand how tourists perceive and evaluate their experiences. Studies in psychology and marketing have found that experience is evaluated based on a few key characteristics instead of simply summing or averaging momentary states. These key characteristics include the duration, linear trend of the experience and one’s feelings at the beginning, peak and final states. In this study, we examine the effect of these features on tourism experience evaluation using new technology to track people’s arousal levels in real time within the context of a museum visit.
