A Structuring Account of Existing Literature on Heritage Tourism

Abstract (150 Words)

Heritage attractions and heritage-related activities play a significant role in drawing tourists to destinations. It is thus not surprising that heritage and heritage tourism has received much scholarly attention. Studies on heritage in tourism research are conducted by researchers from various disciplines, and as a result there is a broad-ranging body of literature on heritage, including various perspectives and viewpoints. The purpose of this paper, thus, is to provide a comprehensive review of and structure to the literature on heritage as it relates to tourism, by bringing together the various theories and results from existing studies looking to heritage from different perspectives. We identify four research angels from which scholars have looked at heritage as it relates tourism research: Management, tourism, joint management/tourism, and co-creation.
