Carla Barbieri is an associate professor in Equitable and Sustainable Tourism at North Carolina State University. Her research focuses on agritourism, farm entrepreneurial diversification, and rural well-being. She also investigates niche tourism, especially associated with natural and coastal resources. Barbieri uses sustainability, sociological, and tourism approaches to frame her studies.

Shuangyu Xu pursued her doctoral studies in the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management at North Carolina State University, focusing on wine tourism development. Her research interests include residents’ attitudes and rural tourism. Xu is also interested in the application of GIS in the tourism field.
