Session Description
Have you ever heard the phrase "international librarianship" and thought the experience was reserved for jetsetters with the means to permanently move abroad? When you read that term now, do you come up with a list of reasons why it could never happen for you, such as a language barrier, taking time off of work, or having no idea how to start? In 2019 and 2022, an academic librarian traveled to the Netherlands on a Fulbright Specialist grant to help a library to assess and plan their scholar's lab. This lightning talk will help you to consider ways to get funding for a professional experience abroad, as well as outlining how one librarian fostered connections in order to make a professional experience abroad work for her.
Learning outcomes:
Attendees will be able to locate grant funding sources to complete a professional experience abroad.
Attendees will be able to learn about the process to obtain a Fulbright Specialist grant.
Attendees will hear about methods to talk to their manager about traveling abroad.
Attendees will very briefly hear about the types of work completed during a professional experience abroad, as examples of the types of experiences they might have abroad.
