Abstract
Hundreds of structures to pass upstream and downstream migrant salmonids exist within the Columbia River Basin. Many older installations pass fish ineffectively. Newer, more effective fish passage facilities combine knowledge of fish behavior with flow hydraulics at the installation site. However, even with effective fish passage facilities, cumulative loss may be substantial to fish that must migrate past a number of installations.
