Students of color who aspire to be student leaders at predominately white institutions (PWI) typically follow norms of what leadership means that are set by the institution. This ‘leadership norm’ is often not best suited for some students of color due to how leadership is defined in their own communities. A workshop intended for both student affairs and academic affairs professionals, this presentation and facilitated discussion seeks to begin a conversation that would lead to establishing a holistic, community-wide approach to mentoring and advising this population of students.
