Reclaiming the River's Bend: A Multi-Use Proposal

Abstract
This project addresses the future of a severely disturbed site situated within an area of great natural beauty. The Moore Property in Williamstown has been a source of ongoing controversy, with the community divided between those advocating for its restoration and preservation for conservation and recreation, and others who support a mix of municipal and industrial uses. Over the past 40 years, development on the site has occurred in a piecemeal manner, with successive users carving out portions of the land, leading to the fragmented and degraded landscape seen today. A key challenge in resolving this debate is the public’s limited understanding of the site. While recent studies have examined specific concerns such as landfill leachate, water quality, aquifer recharge, and the relocation of the town garage, no comprehensive assessment has been conducted. Furthermore, there has been insufficient consideration of how current and potential uses of the site affect the surrounding environment and the broader community.
