Abstract (150 Words)

This research explores front desk workers’ experiences of working and living on board an ocean cruising vessel. To investigate this and following a phenomenological research design, semi-structured interviews will be conducted with front desk workers on board cruise ships. The sample will be drawn from previous colleagues. Additional methods such as object elicitation including artefacts, as well as image elicitation are anticipated to be used. The data will be analysed using the technique of thematic analysis. It is hoped, that this research will shed light on the understanding of cruise ships as a total institution and how front desk workers regulate their emotions in such a precarious working environment.
