The objective of this ecological mapping project was to delineate and describe Land Type Associations (LTAs) within the 5 U.S. Forest Service Subsections that occur in western Massachusetts. The context for the mapping methods used in this project was the National Hierarchical Framework of Ecological Units initially developed by the U.S. Forest Service (ECOMAP 1993), with the eastern United States having been mapped to the Subsection level in 1995 (Keyes and Carpenter 1995).
